Various types of muscle fibers form each muscle. To increase strength, all types of muscle fibers should be worked during a training session. For some specific exercise combinations that use all types of muscle fiber, read this article on an exercise plan. The two principal fiber categories are fast twitch and slow twitch and fast twitch fibers consist of Type A and Type B fibers. In the majority of the muscles in our body, there are about 50% fast twitch and 50% slow twitch mucles fibers. An exercise program that works the entire muscle – both fiber types – builds more muscle.
Fast twitch muscle fibers work anaerobically – they are used when you need short bursts of strength or speed. Anaerobic means they perform using the energy stored in your body. Fast twitch muscle fibers fatigue faster than slow twitch fibers because the fast twitch nerves fire faster. Fast twitch muscles are used when a sprinter runs, using a lot of power for a very short time.
Type A uses both aerobic and anaerobic energy and are considered intermediate muscle fibers. Activities that are relatively short, but not at an all out pace use Type A fast twitch fibers. Type B fast twitch muscle fibers use only anaerobic metabolism. Type B fast twitch muscle fibers have a contraction rate that is the fastest of all muscle fibers so they fatigue very fast. When a high performance rush of energy is needed, Type B fast twitch fibers are used.
Slow twitch muscle fibers use aerobic metabolism. These fibers contract slower and can work for for an extended period, but they do not create a lot of force. Energy for these muscles is provided by oxygen rich blood transported to them through the many capillaries within the fibers. The slow twitch muscle fiber is used for medium to low intensity exercises that can be completed over a long period of time. Some examples are marathon running, an extended bike ride or hiking in the mountains.
If you want your muscles to perform at their peak during any type of exercise you choose to do, your strength workout should exercise all types of muscle fibers. Slow twitch muscles are strengthened when you train for endurance. Lift weights small enough that you can complete 3 sets of 6 – 10 reps, run for an hour or swim 100 laps. This training is necessary to build the entire muscle even though it will take more time than the training for fast twitch muscles.

Every muscle builder wants to grow faster. Fast gains is the name of the game , no-one likes waiting. So it is very frustrating that it takes months or years to build muscle mass. However we can significantly decreas the amount of time it takes to build muscle mass. So here are 10 hot tips that show you how to build muscles fast. They follow now:
1. The Concept of Overload. This really means that you should be aiming to improve in the workload in any way at every workout. You must constantly strive for improvements in order to keep pushing your muscle to the limits to stimulate growth. By placing ever increasing demands on the body we can force it to continually grow and adapt to the new demands each workout in order to build muscle fast.
2. The ideal rep range is between 8-12. This repa range is proven to be the most efficient for increasing muscle size. Try to keep your workout as short as 45 mins and keep the intensity high.
4. Consume enough calories. You must support your muscle growth with an excess amount of quality calories. Muscle doesn’t just grow out of thin air it requires the excess calories to build it. Quality calories are needed and can be gotten from rice, breads, pasta for carbs, fish, lean white meat for protein and fresh leafy green fruit and vegetables for vitamins and minerals.
5. Raise the level of protein that you eat. Protein repairs and builds muscle so is definetely required. You cannot build muscle fast without enough protein. You can figure out the amount of protein you need by:
Lean Mass Body Weight in kg times 2.75 = your per day protein requirement
To workout your lean mass weight you need to know your percentage body fat. This can be undertaken at any gym or an easier way is to eat one gram of protein per pound of your bodyweight.
