Do you believe you can’t lose weight? Have you got a particular reason you can’t lose that excess fat? The fact is most people who are looking to lose a few pounds get set in the mind that they can’t lose weight. Kinda like in a bar when there’s peanuts on the bar so you eat the salt, get thirsty and drink more. Do any search on the net and you’ll hit a million websites that will promise to strip that fat from your love handles. Sadly most of it’s just fluff & rubbish. It’s usually geared to selling you some pills or equipment.

The usual suspect in the exercise for love handles category is the good old side bend. You hold something above your head, usually a broom handle or stick and then lean or bend left, then right. Then repeat, repeatedly. Get real! You can do side bends all you like but they won’t work.

The fact they won’t work is that targeting one particular area to lose weight from is nigh on impossible. Lots of people and websites will tell you otherwise though. Of course they work, but only when they are part of a complete system. Not just targeting one area.

Doing side bends as part of an all round workout will definitely get you success. If you have a healthy diet as well as a good workout system you will see far better results. It’s a well known (but ignored) fact that to lose weight you simply need to consume less energy than you burn off.

Consuming energy means eating it, usually food. To burn energy off you simply have to do something that is active. Exercise usually. Exercise can be any form of activity that burns calories.

Any of these will do … Swimming, jogging, cycling, walking, and making love even! Any exercise at all is better than no exercise at all. The reason a lot of us are overweight is we eat food that is stuffed with calories. Then we fail to burn those calories off.

You can exercise for your love handles all you want but if you ignore other areas you will simply get nowhere fast. If you are a naturally lazy person (like me) then swimming is probably your best all round exercise. If you have access to a pool, use it. The benefits are immense.

I dislike jogging and the like. I see no reason to pay for a slim figure with wrecked knee joints. I believe the guy who brought us jogging keeled over and died while out jogging. His body being found by two smokers passing by. There’s irony for ya!

If you are serious about your shape then you need to get yourself an all round system to follow. Not some new fangled diet that won’t work but a system that will work long term and is gentle enough for you to keep at it. What you may not know is that having the right weight loss motivation is actually what can take you further than the right plan or the right amount of will power. Do it for the right reasons and you are more likely to succeed with your plans. If you are getting your weight loss motivation from the wrong place, you are not going to get very far. You have to know that you are doing it for yourself and yourself only. Exercise for love handles, will it hurt me? Well that all rests on what & how you do it. But it doesn’t have to be.

Those nasty lumps of fat at your sides are what is termed as ‘love handles’. There’s nothing lovely about them so where the name comes from I don’t know.

The correct term for them is ‘obliques’, as they are at an angle to our bodies. The term oblique means slanting, or at an angle.

In the fitness & health industry the standard advice starts with – eat healthily, exercise moderately, balanced diet – and all the other rubbish they spout.

We know what we should do but we need to get rid of these love handles the easy way, without the hard work. Is there a way?

Yes it’s possible. You can continue on your junk food diet and lose your love handles but you are in for a huge amount of work.

The problem is while you are hard at it exercising for your love handles, sweating yesterdays burgers off, today’s burgers are making their way slowly to your midriff.

If, and I say then tentatively, if you were to cut the crap food out you will find you can do far less exercise to maintain a great body.

It’s all about trade-off. How bad do you want to get rid of your love handles? Bad enough to change your lifestyle?

Or do you want to continue to fill your self with junk food and work much harder at the exercise routines. It’s your call.

Example exercises for love handles are side bends. If you eat like you do now you may need to do a couple hundred of these a day to stay as you are. Or make the lifestyle change and only need to do fifty to get rid of the love handles.

As you will gather from the above, it’s a fine balancing act. Junk food = more exercise while healthy food = less exercise.

I’m inherently lazy, so I tend to go for the healthiest option that I can to minimise any exercise I have to do. I still do exercises for love handles but only to keep them at bay.

In conclusion, you will get pain if you have to do loads of exercise for your love handles. If you can change you eating habits you can manage with far less exercise.

I see my adult life as part one and part two. Although there is weight loss involved here it’s not why I see it in two parts.

In my case the before is (yes being overweight) before I was struck with diabetes. After is obviously the fall out after getting (and dealing with) it.

I was in my mid twenties and I was overweight. Not drastically but I was nearly always carrying around an extra 15 to 20 pounds.

I’d been on the diet merry go round many times but I lacked the motivation. Plus I’d brainwashed myself into thinking I can’t lose weight.

When I was motivated it seemed to take ages to lose a few pounds. When I wasn’t motivated it seemed to take about a day to pile it back on.

Then disaster, or what seemed like disaster for me. Struck with diabetes, and all the possible complications that come with it.

I was told in no uncertain terms to drop the weight, or suffer. I had to stop thinking I can’t lose weight and start thinking I can lose weight.

What the hell was I gonna do? I was convinced for most of my adult life that I simply can’t lose weight. I needed to get hold of a dieting system that worked for me.

What I thought I needed was something that I could follow step by step every day. Along the way ticking off the boxes when I’d finished a step.

If my daily tasks were meals or a few exercises then I wanted a neat list of things I could tick off when I’m done. If I stick to the plan I must be doing it right.

I found and tried all sorts of diets and contraptions. I read a lot of Ebooks and paper books but I didn’t feel fully comfortable with any of them.

I actually discovered a neat system that has a computer generated diet planner. Better still it doesn’t restrict my meal sizes! It takes all the stress out of planning the correct meals and diet.

Remember me saying I like to tick off the boxes every day? This system does that for me. Pardon the pun but this system ticks all my boxes!

I can tell you from my own experiences that you are most likely wrong if you are assuming you can’t lose weight. If you are yet to find a system that works for you then maybe that system is the one I’m using?
